I would like to begin by apologizing for the lack of new posts this month! I’ve been one busy chica for the past few weeks. This is not necessarily a bad thing in the life of Hannah Marie Brooks; although I would like to add that I have dealt with more stress this month than I like to admit. Regardless, it seems as though February is closing on much calmer note than when it began.
Next, I’d like to provide an update on several of the topics I have brought up in previous posts. In regards to the Miss Central Pennsylvania Scholarship Pageant, I unfortunately did not win any titles or awards. However, I took away from the experience a chance to better my interview and performance skills, a few new friends, and lots of sequins and glitter left over in my weekend bags! I always love a chance to perform, and I truly feel that my rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” was the best I have ever done. I also got to wear beautiful gowns in the “Evening Wear” competition and showed off my physical fitness in the “Lifestyle and Fitness” portion of the show. All in all, I consider it a valuable experience.
I have even better news about the garage band I’m starting with Ryan! Since I last posted, I have been contacted by a bassist AND a drummer. This is very exciting! Hopefully after spring break we will get a chance to meet and begin practices. We’ve begun considering songs to play, including “When I Come Around” by Green Day, “Paranoid” by Black Sabbath (a daunting choice, considering I’ve never vocally tackled the likes of Ozzy Osbourne before; although its always fun to take on interesting characters such as him), and “What’s My Age Again?” by Blink-182. Unfortunately, we may be too late to enter in the Thetafest Battle of the Bands on campus; however, there is always next year!
Finally, the month has ended in quite the whirlwind of events. I have successfully made it through three midterm exams and two midterm papers; the highlight of which being my first Chemistry exam on which I scored a fantastic 97.5%! Also, in the past week my roommate has vacated our shared living space (for reasons I will not disclose in this blog), leaving me with my very own single. As much as I had no problems living with another person, it is nice to have a breath of fresh air and a little bit of peace and quiet. Now that “Furious February” has concluded, I feel lighter, more fresh, and ready to tackle the final chapter of my freshman year at Saint Francis University upon returning from spring break.
Lucky, I thought when Bob left I’d have my own room. Instead, without telling me, Penn State gave me a new roommate. He’s a nice guy but…ugh, so many annoying tendencies.
